Dare to be Dyslexic - Private Tuition

“Ko te ahurei o te tamaiti aroha o tātou mahi. Let the uniqueness of the child guide our work."

My Mission

To discover our students' strengths and use these to lead their learning. To understand the students' barriers to learning, embrace these with love, enabling new strategies to flourish.

Services

We offer individual, Buddy (2 Students), and Small Group ( 3 students) in-person tutoring for Literacy.
These sessions are held in person in my home, which has been set up with teaching rooms and a teaching studio for sessions. They are held during school and after school hours, and in the school holidays (if requested). Zoom sessions are available for when children are sick.
We offer our lounge for caregivers to wait quietly during sessions.

We often hold Parent Information Seminars to help with strategies to support our learners at home. We provide reports and learning kits for home, if requested.

Special Offer

Free Student Workbook ( for use in sessions) for anyone who signs up their children through The Art & Living Space.

Value Exchange

I'm open to exchanging services where there's a good fit and mutual benefit. If you have skills, products, or services you believe could be a valuable exchange, feel free to reach out and we can explore the possibilities.

My Story

After 30 years of experience in the New Zealand education system, from Primary School to Intermediate as a classroom teacher, a Senior Management Team member, and a Learning Support Coordinator at a High school, I transitioned from 'regular' education to creating an environment and programme that worked with students' strengths and catered to the world of the neurodivergent learner.

My passion is working with neurodiverse learners – working with whānau of dyslexic, autistic, ADHD/ADD students and those with auditory processing issues, dyspraxia, dysgraphia, and cerebral palsy; this has been a privilege for me to journey with these young people who have incredible minds and skills. I know they often teach me as much as they learn from me.

I am mum to a dyslexic, amazing, and successful son who is a Mechanic and an incredible daughter who is a Secondary School English teacher. I was diagnosed in adulthood with dyslexia, so from personal experience, I can easily relate to children and families at all levels.

I believe in the amazing capacity of our brains, and understand that our bodies need to be calm and centred for effective learning to anchor in. I recognise and encourage relational learning, understanding that positive relationships between students and tutors (and between students and students) enhance our capacity to learn, remember, and transfer our skills to different environments.

Our programmes include a range of holistic and educational practices that we all enjoy and benefit from.

Testimonials

Born to teach…
Kate is a kind, friendly & vibrant person whom I believe was born to teach. Her positive approach to tutoring my daughter Emma has shone through in every session she has conducted for her – both in-person & via zoom during Lockdowns over the past year.

Kate’s relaxed & welcoming learning environment has seen Emma progress immensely at her own pace. Emma finds the course content engaging & as a result, and I have seen her confidence soar to amazing heights. Kate’s sessions are always well structured & Emma says, “they are fun”.

Kate puts a great deal of effort into planning the lessons & the progress reports she provides are in-depth & super informative. As a parent, it is a wonderful feeling to drop my daughter off at Kate’s place full of enthusiasm & to see her smiley face an hour later, knowing that she is fizzing inside with a great sense of achievement. I recommend Kate’s tutoring services to anyone seeking assistance with their child’s learning journey.

Wow, what an amazing seminar you put on for us. You did such a great job! And such a beautiful venue. We are so lucky to have found you to help us and Asher. I found myself feeling emotional in parts as so much resonated with me. Jeremy and I have taken away so many tips and tricks. Thank you so much for the seminar today. Those tips are gold.
Forever grateful. Thanks again.
